The characteristics of hydrogen and how hydrogen can support the combustion of gasoline/diesel.
The flame propagation speed of hydrogen is 8 times that of gasoline. The flame of hydrogen can ignite all the gasoline injected into the engine in a very short time and support the combustion of gasoline. This improves the combustion efficiency of the engine. Make the fuel burn fully, provide more energy and improve fuel economy. Hydrogen enters the engine together with the air, and it plays a combustion-supporting effect on the fuel, rather than replacing the fuel or substituting part of the fuel.
Fuel consumption analysis of petrol and diesel engines
It can be seen from the gasoline engine fuel consumption graph that the fuel consumption of the engine is the lowest in the range of 2000rpm, 150NM–250NM. This range has the best fuel economy, and the engine burns the most fuel efficiently. At 1000rpm~4000rpm, the fuel consumption is relatively high in the area of 20NM~100NM. That is, the fuel economy is poor, and the combustion efficiency of the engine is very low. The fundamental reason is that gasoline flame spreads slowly. This results in incomplete gasoline combustion during engine acceleration and under heavy loads. Therefore, an area of low combustion efficiency is formed. The car is in this condition most of the time, so the fuel consumption is also relatively high.
This is a fuel consumption chart for a diesel engine. The working condition with the lowest fuel consumption of the vehicle is 1400rpm, 500NM–600NM, and the fuel consumption is 195. The truck is often in the working condition of 2000rpm–2200rpm, 500NM–700NM, and the fuel consumption is 220 at this time. This is because the fuel burns for different lengths of time inside the engine. Moreover, under heavy load conditions, the engine needs to inject enough fuel, which makes the engine more fuel-injected and shortens the combustion time, resulting in lower fuel combustion efficiency and lower fuel economy. To put it simply, whether it is a gasoline engine or a diesel engine, under normal driving conditions, the engine will inject more fuel for a long time, and the fuel combustion time will be shortened, resulting in a decrease in fuel combustion efficiency. Fuel consumption will inevitably increase. The most fundamental reason is that the flame propagation speed of fuel oil is relatively slow, and it is difficult to fully burn all the fuel oil in a very short combustion time. Some of the unburned fuel will be exhausted with the exhaust, resulting in reduced fuel economy and increased exhaust hazards.
How to produce hydrogen
There are two ways to generate hydrogen gas to aid combustion in the car in real time. The first method uses an alkaline hydrogen generator to electrolyze water to produce hydrogen and oxygen gas. Used sing stainless steel as the electrodes, KOH or NaOH is added to the water as a catalyst, and 12V, 5A~20A of electricity is ufor electrolysis, which consumes 60W–200W of power to produce hydrogen gas. This is a big burden for the car’s generator, and the hydrogen gas produced by the electrolyzer containing KOH and NaOH has corrosivity, which can cause damage to the engine. The second method is a PEM pure water hydrogen generator, using a proton membrane and iridium oxide layer as catalysts, without the need to add alkaline or acidic catalysts, just adding pure water is enough. The hydrogen and oxygen gas produced by electrolysis is very clean and does not harm the engine(PEM electrolyzer VS Alkaline electrolyzer). It requires 2V-4V, 5A-15A of power and consumes 10W–60W of power to produce hydrogen and oxygen, without extra burden to the car’s generator. The only downside is that it is more expensive. After 8 years of testing and comparison, we have finally chosen a PEM pure water electrolytic cell to produce hydrogen gas.
How much hydrogen do we need
This is the most contradictory point in the whole product concept. The electricity for electrolysis to produce hydrogen comes from the engine, the more hydrogen produced, the greater the electricity consumed, which increases the burden of the generator, thus increasing the fuel consumption of the engine. In addition, the large amount of hydrogen produced entering the engine may increase the thermal load of the engine and aggravate the thermal fatigue of the engine, which is also unfavorable.
With less hydrogen, less electricity is consumed and the burden of the generator is not increased. Moreover, a small amount of hydrogen is very safe and will not cause combustion or increase the thermal load of the engine. However, using a small amount of hydrogen to assist combustion of the engine fuel has little effect.
Our SENZA hydrogen truck kit uses a microchip algorithm control + a small amount of hydrogen to assist combustion of the engine. A small amount of hydrogen is injected into the engine, and due to the fast flame propagation speed of hydrogen, fuel can be assisted in combustion in a very short time. In addition, with high-precision and accurate control of the engine ECU, parameters such as injection timing and ignition timing are optimized in real time, which not only can maximize the combustion effect of hydrogen in the engine cylinder, but also fully ensure safety and stability. Therefore, we use the method of microchip program control and hydrogen injection. The configuration of hydrogen for small cars is 100ml/min-300ml/min; The configuration of hydrogen for trucks and large trucks is 150ml/min-1000ml/min, according to different displacements configure different amounts of hydrogen.
